Akon’s Melbourne gig turned into a “blood bath” last night with the hip-hop superstar launching himself into the crowd to break up a fight.
The violence began when a group of 50 or so fans stormed the entrance of the HiSense venue, beating up two security guards in the process.
As the gig got under way, the antisocial behaviour in some parts of the crowd worsened, with bottles and punches being thrown.
And as one particularly nasty fight broke out between two sets of fans, the ’Sexy Bitch’ singer jumped from the stage and walked into the crowd to break it up.
Video footage from the concert shows the rapper walking through the crowd calling on them to "calm down.
Akon’s promoter said: “The thing that I saw, and I was standing right next to him … He walked to a girl (involved in a fight) and walked to her and held her face and said: ‘You’re better than that’.”
Blimey.
Local police have confirmed that during and after the gig, 18 people required medical treatment, six were hospitalised and six others have since come forward to say they were assaulted.
Poor old, Akon. It’s taken him two years to be allowed back into Oz after convincing authorities previous criminal convictions shouldn’t stop him performing.
Let’s hope this doesn’t wreck his chances of more shows Down Under.
