The outpouring of relief from the Australian music scene in response to the Victorian Bushfires has been nothing short of astounding.

Tickets to the Vodafone MTV Australia Awards 2009 have been selling like hotcakes (all proceeds go to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal) while the 'Bushfire Aid' compilation that Sony released last week has already sold out of its initial shipment.

The benefit album was fast-tracked for release and saw the company sign on Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Paul Kelly, Justin Timberlake, Powderfinger and other high profile musicians in a matter of days. Not only that, all the featured acts have agreed to waive their royalties so that more funds raised by the album can go directly to the Salvation Army Bushfire Appeal.

The music and entertainment industry have been pulling their weight with various fundraisers, charity gigs and, now, a huge festival Sound Relief.

Scheduled for March 14, Sound Relief brings together the biggest line-up of local and international acts our country has ever seen and, in a history making move, also sees previously rival record companies and artists united for a common cause.

Melbourne plays host to Kings of Leon, Jet, Midnight Oil, Augie March, Split Enz, Bliss N Eso with Paris Wells, Gabriella Cilmi, Hunters & Collectors, Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson with Troy Cassar-Daly, Jack Johnson, Liam Finn, Paul Kelly and Wolfmother.

Sydney, meanwhile, is set to enjoy performances from Coldplay (an acoustic set), Eskimo Joe, Hoodoo Gurus, Icehouse, Jet, Josh Pyke, Little Birdy, The Presets, Wolfmother and You Am I.

Tickets for each event are $75 and go on sale from March 4. All profits go directly to charity. Oh, and in case you were wondering yes, the Federal Environment Minister, Peter Garrett, will be reprising his role as the Midnight Oil frontman with the wacky dancing. Should be quite a spectacle.

Tickets to the Vodafone MTV Australia Awards 2009are still available through Ticketek.
