Lady Gaga was one the brightest stars of 2008.

She delivered three international chart hits and a number one album, walked around in cold climates with no pants on, frequently talked about setting G Strings on fire and had everyone from Paris Hilton to Christina Aguilera ‘borrowing’ (i.e. copying) her style.

So how come Calvin Harris turned down collaboration with the reigning pop princess? Well, according to Harris, her name was a bit meh and her songs didn’t sound good.

According to the Sun newspaper, Harris said:

"I usually make a lot of bad decisions if I'm left to myself.

"A perfect example of that is when Lady GaGa first came out. Her name rang a bell, so I checked my emails and it turns out that on January 1, 2008, I got an email asking to work with her.

"I thought: 'Lady GaGa, what sort of name is that?' So I replied saying: 'Nah, I'm not into that'.

"Fast forward a year and she's the biggest thing. But I don't regret turning her down as I didn't think the song I heard then was that good."

Hmmm, it appears Calvin just might be experiencing the bitter taste of regret! But don’t take it personally Gaga – the iconic musician has told Britney Spears to retire!

Harris said in an interview with MTV.co.uk "I think it's about time she retired gracefully.

“Surely she can't come back from this? That picture of her (hitting the car with the umbrella) was shocking! I was actually doing a radio interview while flicking through the paper when I saw it and I ended up laughing and having to tell the DJ what was the matter,” he said.

Wrong again, Calvin.

However, it’s not all bad for the DJ. Harris has gone straight to number one with the hit ‘I’m Not Alone’ knocking Lady from the UK’s music chart throne.

Could this be the start of another beef ala Rick Ross and 50 Cent ? If so, our money’s on Gaga! One well aimed-strike of those oversized, Star Treq shoulder pads and Calvin would be on the floor!

But something tells us the ever humble Gaga will take it all in her stride. After all, when Xtina harked her heckles after being accused of copying Lady’s style, Gaga responded “It’s an honour to be compared to her.”

Now that’s a real lady.
