According to undercover.com, the night before MJ died a complete dress rehearsal of the 50-date ‘This Is It’ concert series at the O2 Arena in London show was filmed. Randy Phillips, chief executive of AEG Live (who produced Jackson’s concerts), says that his company has recorded enough material to release two albums and video, and could generate hundreds of millions of dollars; enough to erase debts on the singer's estate.
Another report doing the rounds is that Michael kept a secret library of over 100 songs that he planned to release after his death, but only for his children.
Other unreleased recordings in the vault include songs made with Akon, Ne-Yo and Black Eyed Peas front-man will.i.am.
Michael's most lucrative asset is his share of the Sony/ATV Music Publishing catalogue which includes the rights to his own songs, as well as songs by The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, Lady Gaga, the Jonas Brothers. All of which could all be sold off to clear his debt. Sony retains exclusive distribution rights for anything Jackson produced while under contract, potentially paving the way for other chart-topping acts to cover and release his songs.
Meanwhile, a date and venue has been set for Michael’s public memorial service. The service for the late singer will now be held in a sporting and concert arena in Los Angeles at 10am Tuesday.
We’ll keep you posted.
