With local celebs, international stars and VIP guests taking over the Allphones Arena at Sydney’s Olympic Park, the fun got started in style with a killer set by Aussie MC Drapht.
The hip hop star led the way for an impressive bunch of performers, including Goyte, Kimbra, Boy & Bear, Art vs Science, Gurrumul with Missy Higgins, Cut Copy, The Living End and Guy Sebastian.
And surprising fans with a moving tribute to those artists who’ve passed away over the ARIA Awards’ 25 year history was songbird Delta Goodrem, who made a welcome return to our shores after working on her album stateside.
But the night truly proved to be all about the boys – with Sydney based quintet Boy & Bear scooping a massive FIVE gongs!
Although, they didn’t seem to agree with all their mighty recognition - insisting the ‘Breakthrough Artist - Album’ prize should have gone to fellow nominees The Middle East.
“I think that the best album of the year is The Middle East, but that's just me,” drummer Tim Hart told the audience on stage, before quickly adding, “I'm going to get in trouble for that, I'm sorry."
Meanwhile, man of the moment Goyte added to his collection of trophies by picking up a further three, including ‘Single of the Year,’ ‘Best Pop Release’ and ‘Best Male Artist.’
And his guest vocalist, New Zealand born songstress Kimbra was also celebrating after winning her very first solo ARIA Award for ‘Best Female Artist.’
