With an album due in February and a slew of festival appearances just arround the corner, it's also just been announced that the deck spinner will take to the stage at our exclusive MTV Summer party before Redfoo and Sky Blu from LMFAO!
Fresh from a trip to party capital Ibiza, we caught up with the lovely DJ Minx to talk about MTV Summer and get her top tips for other aspiring DJs...
MTV: Hi Minx! Tell us, what first attracted you to DJing?
DJ Minx: I’m not a TV kind of person, I’m just in love with music and going to gigs and seeing live acts, so I guess that whole side of things really intrigued me and got me interested in music. As soon as I was 18 and able to go clubbing dance music was just something I fell in love with.
MTV: You recently took out EMI's ‘She Can DJ’ competition, can you tell us a bit about that?
DJ Minx: It’s a competition for already existing professional female DJs, so girls that already have a bit of a following, a bit of a fan base, and that are out there doing what they do, touring, playing clubs. The prize was a global recording contract with EMI, a compilation CD which I’ve got coming out in February, and a trip to Ibiza as well!
MTV: You’ve played alongside some massive names including David Guetta , Deadmau5 and Swedish House Mafia, what was that experience like for you?
DJ Minx: Umm, insane!! Just to put it mildly, yeah absolutely amazing. Last year I played after Tiesto at Stereosonic festival and that was a real crazy, crazy time, I think I was shaking so much I could hardly touch the decks! I was so nervous, but it was absolutely amazing.
MTV: You’re going to be supporting the boys from LMFAO at our annual MTV Summer event, are you excited?
DJ Minx: Yes!! Super, super excited. It’s obviously going to be a huge party, and supporting the lads – they’re a little bit crazy on stage so that will be a bit of fun! I’ve seen them play a couple of times at festivals and I’m a fan of their extraordinary energy that they have and their unique way of getting the crowd really involved and pumped up. So yeah, it’ll be a very fun show!
MTV: What can we expect from your set?
DJ Minx: My love and my passion when I’m playing is big room house and main room tracks, so definitely lots of familiar stuff.
MTV: And finally, do you have any tips for the aspiring DJs out there?
DJ Minx: Just go out there and meet as many people as you can, because just sitting at home and doing mix tapes and sending your mixtapes off just isn’t enough these days. It’s kind of getting out there and meeting the club owners and the club promoters and really showing your enthusiasm. I think that’s the key to scoring residencies and getting out there and playing gigs in front of crowds.
