It must have seemed a bit inevitable to many, as the couple are rarely spotted together, and since the commencement of the arrangement, Daniel and Natalie have been said to spend time together for only around three weeks each year.
The rumours took a special new force, however, when Daniel failed to thank his wife at his acceptance speech when Silverchair won a record 5 ARIAs in October last year. And the final hype emerged around a week ago, when the couple were noted not to be spending their fourth year anniversary (New Years Eve) together, despite Natalie's presence in Australia for a David Jones launch of end-of-year sales.
Aside from the distance that the couple spent apart, all sorts of other rumours have hounded the legitimacy of the couple's relationship since their wedding in 2003, including that Natalie was romantically involved with Little Britain star David Williams, and that Daniel is not that "into" people of the chick-persuasion.
But the distance was blamed when the career-focused couple released a joint statement on Friday, where they said:
"While we are very sad that our marriage has ended, we want to make it clear that our parting is amicable and we remain friends. This mutual decision has not been taken lightly or quickly. However, our career demands and our lives in different parts of the world have brought us to the point where unfortunately this difficult decision was necessary for both of us. We have simply grown apart through not being able to spend enough time together."
Famously, Natalie said "I'd never let the distance or work get in the way of my marriage," when interviewed only two years ago.
Unfortunately, it seems that around 15,000 kilometres does get in the way of romance, even in this techno-crazy age.
