We bet Jake Gyllenhaal and Matt Damon are well and truly kicking themselves.

The Hollywood stars both snubbed the chance to star in the huge blockbuster ‘Avatar,’ giving Sam Worthington his time to shine.

The movie’s director James Cameron told The Los Angeles Times, “Honestly, did I go out and try to woo them? No. I had my heart set on Sam. Maybe they sensed my lack of 100 percent commitment from me. Maybe it was the subject matter. This was a big Star Wars-type movie. They're both serious actors."

The Aussie actor was living in his car, struggling to make the big time, when he was offered the role of Jake Scully in the sci-fi epic, that now stands as the biggest money-making film in the history of Hollywood.

Oh well it’s not all doom and gloom for the two who didn’t sign up. Jake will star in ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,’ due to hit cinemas in May, and Matt will hit the big screen in ‘Green Zone’ as well as ‘Happy Feet 2 in 3D,’ out next year.
