Foo Fighters did a whole lot more than just delight their devoted fans during their recent Down Under tour – they also raised a bucket load of cash for victims of the recent flood disaster in Queensland and quake-hit Christchurch.
The rockers, who were here in March promoting their new album ‘Wasting Light’, donated all the profits from their Botanic Gardens Riverstage gig in Brisbane, amassing over $770 000 for the Queensland Premiere’s Disaster Relief Appeal according to a press release. The gig sold out in 15 minutes of going on sale.
Michael Gudinski from Frontier Touring Company said: “The Foo Fighters were determined to help New Zealand and Australia in the aftermath of these terrible disasters. The overwhelming success of the concerts and the more than AUD$1 million raised across the two countries shows how much the Foos care for the people of Australia and New Zealand and they displayed this by staging two of the more memorable rock shows in recent times.”
The band have posted the profit and loss reports of both gigs on the Frontier Touring website.
In other Foo news, David Grohl has revealed that despite being one of the most successful bands of the last decade, winning six Grammys and selling more than 10 million albums, he still does not consider himself a good songwriter!
He told Absolute Radio: "I don't feel like I'm an incredible songwriter that makes these incredible rock records. I'm humbled by the whole thing, and I just sort of cross my fingers and hope that it sounds okay, or that people will dig it, or my band will dig it. There are some times where I'll write a song and Taylor will say 'That's not your best work.'"
We think your millions of fans would beg to differ Dave!
