'Unashamedly Pop', That’s the best way to describe starlet Little Boots. Her solo debut, ‘Hands’, is awash with hooks, electro-lite production, big choruses and delightfully vapid lyrics. If you go into it thinking you’ve stumbled across the UK version of Lady GaGa, then you’re in for a pleasant surprise.

‘New in Town’, the first single, sets the album off to a good start. Melding elements of Lily Allen, Annie and the aforementioned GaGa, it’s a slice of pop gold. The track topped the UK charts when it was released and rightly so. It’s practically impossible to hate on Little Boots (aka Victoria Hesketh) as she sings, “I don’t have a lot of money but we’ll be fine/I don’t have a penny but I’ll show you a good time.”

Sometimes the issue with setting such a high watermark with your first single (and first track on the album), is that people expect the same calibre of material from there on in. Fortunately, there are plenty of other tracks on this debut album that score the same heights. The rest of Little Boots pop-tastic electro numbers are sure to make a heady impression on listeners - expect this to be huge.

Little Boots debut album ‘Hands’ is out now on Warner.
