For all you Coldplay fans holding your breath for the new album, you might want to exhale sometime soon as the hit-makers have admitted it won’t be released any time this year.
The soft rockers, who were expected to drop their fifth album in time for Christmas, have pushed back the release because they haven’t finished the recordings.
According to musicradar, lead singer Chris Martin, who is a renowned perfectionist, told fans at a meet-and-greet event in London yesterday (September 13) that there was still lots to do on the website.
Fan site Cold Playing reported:
"There ain't gonna be a release for Christmas now that is for sure."
"Chris said that although they are close to finishing lots of songs, they have not actually finished anything at all yet, and he said there'd be no chance of the album coming out for Christmas.
Phil Harvey, Coldplay’s former manager, who is sometimes referred to as the fifth member of the band, reiterated by saying that even if they were finished the album, there would not be enough time for their label EMI to sort out all the ‘fiddly bits’.
A fan is also quoted as saying: "[Coldplay] always seem to finish a huge bulk of songs together. He was very confident anyway, but said that the last two months have not been as completely productive as first imagined. But he also said 'You can't rush things like this! "
Phil also said that fans could be waiting as long as 2012 to see the chart-toppers live in concert. Coldplay’s last album ‘Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends’ sold over nine million copies worldwide, and topped the charts in 24 countries.
