The pair were snapped by those amazing audience cams at the Barclays Center, holding hands and engaging in a spot of thigh touching – which Ellie was quick to dismiss on Twitter afterwards.
However, in true Ed Sheeran fashion, he’s come out and told radio station Click 98.9 all about it in an interview, confirming that the pair were indeed a happening thing but now sadly, they are not.
“Normal people don’t hold hands if they’re just friends,” dished the ‘Lego House’ crooner. “It was going on, and now it’s not.”
Ed then added: “She’s a really cool girl and she’s very talented. She’s had a number one single for three weeks in England now. It’s all going well.”
Sheeran is certainly taking a different approach to discussing the dalliance compared to Ellie, whose tweet following the VMAs indicated that the pair were certainly nowhere near boarding the train to Love Town.
“I love that holding hands with my friends means we’re an item,” she wrote.
Oh how we would love to know what really went on there…
Meanwhile, continuing his sharing about all things romance-related, Ed once again took the opportunity to extinguish any talk of a flame between him and his tour buddy Taylor Swift, insisting: “If you can find a picture of me and Taylor holding hands, you won’t be able to, because it doesn’t exist.
“That’s just people making assumptions because I was on tour with her.”
Thanks for ‘Sheeran,’ Ed.
