Eminem has apologised to Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon after they took offence to some unsavoury lyrics on his new album ‘Relapse’.

Em has said he didn’t mean to upset anyone in his song ‘Bagpipes to Baghdad’. and claimed in an interview with BBC Radio 1 host Tim Westwood that the song was completely misinterpreted.

"What I actually meant to say is, I wish them the best. That's what I meant to say. That's the whole message of the record."

How does Em translate that in rap? ‘Nick Cannon, you pr#*k, I wish you luck with that f@#in' wh@#e.’

So maybe Nick has a right to grumble.

Eminem said, "I kind of spazzed out on that record, but I guess I spazzed out on every record". Few would expect anything less from the notorious rapper; in fact his ‘spazzouts’ are precisely what continues to set him apart, and for the most part, celebs don't retaliate Em's lyrical wrath. Until now.

"He's supposed to defend his wife, and I expected him to do that…there's a line on there that was a little harsh. It's a harsh line... But it's like this, the way I look at it. I had no idea he was going to take it like he took it. I had no idea Nick Cannon was going to start wildin' out on me."

This isn’t the first time that the rapper has shown a softer side since his comeback. He told MTV.com that he "felt kinda conflicted doing the Jessica thing", referring to his slander of Jessica Simpson in ‘We Made You’, . So is it a sudden show of compassion or a smart lawyer telling him to cover his ass? Only Em knows.

We are yet to find out Cannon and Mimi’s responses to the very public apology.

We’ll keep you posted.
