Wondering why Rihanna and Chris Brown weren't at the Grammys despite a scheduled appearance? Well, details are still sketchy, but last time we heard "just friends" don't have fierce lovers tiffs in parked cars.

Yesterday news broke on MTV.com that Chris is being held in custody at the Wilshire Police Station, in connection with an alleged domestic violence felony battery report. The singer voluntarily turned himself in to be questioned.

According to The Associated Press, the LAPD said in a release that the 19-year-old R and B singer and an unidentified woman were in a vehicle in the Hancock Park neighborhood of Los Angeles early Sunday when they began arguing.

The Los Angeles Times reported late Sunday that "sources familiar with the investigation" said the victim in the attack was singer Rihanna. Although authorities declined to confirm the identity of the woman involved in the incident, they have since confirmed that Rihanna was involved in the attack.

Police said Brown and the woman got out of the car and the argument escalated; a witness then called 911, according to the Times.

The injured woman reportedly identified Brown as her attacker. Officers said Brown was not present at the scene when they arrived. People.com reported that the woman in question suffered visible injuries from the attack.

Prior to the reports breaking on news sites, Entertainment Weekly's Web site reported Rihanna and Brown were involved in a car accident early Sunday; a rep for her would not confirm or deny the accident, saying only that "Rihanna is well. Thank you for the care and support."

It was announced Sunday night that neither Rihanna nor Chris Brown would appear at the Grammy Awards as scheduled.

According to MTV.com, Chris Brown has since been charged by the Los Angeles Police Department with making criminal threats. Bail was set at $50,000 and Brown has been released.

MTV News' attempts to reach Brown's spokesperson for comment on the matter were unsuccessful at press time.
