Teen star Corey Haim died in an LA hospital at approximately 2.15pm yesterday, local time (March 10, 2010) from an apparent drug overdose. He was only 38.

Corey, who was reportedly suffering flu like symptoms in the lead up to his untimely death, was staying with his sick mother in her LA apartment, helping to take care of her.

"I am a cancer victim and Corey was helping me at home. He was a good boy. I'm devastated by his death," she said.

According to his agent Mark Heaslip, he woke up that night and called to his mother he wasn’t feeling well. He later complained he was having difficulty breathing before getting out of bed, staggering around the room and collapsing in front of his mother.

"She called for an ambulance immediately," Heaslip said.

"Before he came to the hospital he was pronounced dead."

While the LA police have confirmed, "it was an apparent overdose," they also added the "type of medication" was unknown. An LA coroner has since confirmed that four prescription drug bottles in Haim's name had been found at the apartment.

The Canadian-born star, who became as famous for his drug use and erratic behaviour as his acting, first came to prominence in the 1986 movie ‘Lucas,’ alongside Charlie Sheen and Winona Ryder. But it was when he filmed his biggest hits ‘The Lost Boys,’ with Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric and Corey Feldman, that Corey became an international teen star.

Recently, Corey starred in the reality TV series ‘The Two Coreys’ which centred around fellow actor and long-time friend Corey Feldman , and ex-wife Susie Feldmen trying desperately to keep Corey on the straight and narrow.

After battling a drug habit for years, the former heart-throb openly talked about overcoming his addictions around the time he was promoting his reality television series, and with several more projects in the pipe-line, Corey was hoping for a career comeback.

Hours after the news broke, dedications flooded in from his friends and family. Feldman called Corey’s death, "a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family and best friend".

"I hope the art Corey has left behind will be remembered as the passion of that for which he truly lived," he added.

Former girlfriend Alyssa Milano said: "Just woke up to the sad, sad news that Corey Haim passed away. RIP sweet boy."

Christina Applegate also weighed in saying: "My thoughts go out to Corey's family and friends today. So sad."
