Celebrities Including Lea Michele, Demi Lovato & Ashley Benson Pay Tribute To The Late Naya Rivera

Her body was found Monday.

Celebrities have taken to social media to pay tribute to the late Naya Rivera. Naya's body was recovered from Lake Piru on Monday in the US, five days after the actress was first reported missing. Her four-year-old son, Josey Hollis Dorsey, had been found alone on the rented pontoon.

“It is believed that Naya and her son were swimming in the lake near the boat and as they were getting back into the boat, her son made it into the boat and Naya went underwater and did not resurface,” the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department told Us magazine at the time.

The actress’ body was coincidentally found on the anniversary of Cory Monteith’s death from an accidental overdose. Lea Michele shared black and white photos of both her former Glee co-stars on her Instagram Story.

Another former Glee actress, Jane Lynch, who played cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester, wrote: “Rest sweet, Naya. What a force you were. Love and peace to your family.” Chris Colfer, who played Kurt Hummel on the show, wrote alongside a photo of the two: “How can you convey all your love and respect for someone in one post? How can you summarize a decade of friendship and laughter with words alone? If you were friends with Naya Rivera, you simply can't."

Naya’s Step Up: High Water co-star Ne-Yo wrote on his Instagram Story: “Goodbye mama, we’ll miss you. And we’ll never forget you” while former Disney Channel star Skai Jackson Tweeted: “No baby should have to grow up without a mother. God bless him.”

Demi Lovato, who played Naya’s Glee character Santana Lopez’s love interest on the show, shared a series of photos of the two together, writing alongside them: “RIP Naya Rivera. I’ll forever cherish the opportunity to play your girlfriend on Glee. The character you played was groundbreaking for tons of closeted queer girls (like me at the time) and open queer girls, and your ambition and accomplishments were inspiring to Latina women all over the world."

“My heart goes out to your loved ones at this time.”

Actresses Ashley Benson, Lili Reinhart, Mandy Moore, Rachel Zegler and Rose McGowan were also among those to tribute the late star. “This is absolutely heartbreaking,” Mandy wrote. “Sending love and holding space for her son and loved ones.”

Naya Rivera was most recognised for her role as cheerleader Santana on the TV show, Glee. She had also written a book, released music with collaborator and former partner Big Sean, and was a mother to her four-year-old son. She was 33 years old.
