Sneak Peek of Film clip Comes Out Brightly Confused
Mar 13, 2009
Gwen's gone bananas, or at least banana-yellow, lipstick-red and tropical green, in the latest video for her new sure-fire summer anthem "Now That You've Got It", featuring funky reggaemon Damien Marley.
The video was sneak-previewed on US TV and hit YouTube today, allowing fans a glimpse into the post-baby abs of the sport-ska fashionista. She's obviously been doing push ups, cos despite the watermelon palette of her wardrobe, her stomach is pure flapjack.
In the hot new single, Gwen's trademark chanting basketball-thumping rhythms are icecreamed-up in a reggae smoothy that can't help to please the ears and launch the silly season early. The munchkinland-meets-mopeds film clip with deliriously smiley people sporting novelty hairstyles and playing boardgames may seem a bit drug-smacked (why not?!), but our major criticism is that Gwen seems to be a little unsure about whether she's in South America or Siam with her confused backdrops of communist-style poster-girls, Cuban doorways and the occasional flash of Indian mysticism.
Perhaps this mixed aesthetic is what was irritating celebrity photographer David LaChappelle, who yesterday stated that he would not work with Gwen ever again. Given that Madonna and Christina Aguilera have also made it onto his A-level snub-list, and further given that all three share a penchant for seriously psychedelic video clips, perhaps somewhere at least, there's a pattern.
