Hurricane Sandy ripped through the East Coast of the United States this week, causing mass destruction, extensive flooding and loss of life – and Seaside Heights, New Jersey was one of the many regions devastated.
The city - which served as the backdrop for four action-packed seasons of MTV’s hit show ‘Jersey Shore’ - has been badly damaged, with numerous homes submerged by the tide and whole sections of the famous boardwalk collapsed or washed away.
Now, castmembers from ‘Jersey Shore’ have weighed in on the devastation suffered at the once-picturesque seaside getaway.
"Sandy destroyed Seaside — our second home," Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi said in a statement to MTV News.
"It's devastating to see our boardwalk and favorite spots ruined. My prayers go out to everyone affected by the storm."
"My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by Hurricane Sandy, especially our friends and family in Seaside Heights," continued DJ Pauly D.
"A huge thank you to all the men and women who have been working around the clock to protect and help everyone, true heroes!"
"Over the last few years, it feels like Seaside Heights has become my second home," Vinny Guadagnino added.
"My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who was affected by this disaster in Seaside and all across the Northeast. I'm here to support in any way I can."
"This is a devastating time for the East Coast and my prayers are with everyone," said Jenni ‘JWoww’ Farley.
"I am thinking about my second family at the Jersey Shore and know that we can rebuild and come back stronger."
According to local station First Coast News, Seaside Heights Mayor Bill Akers said, "There has to be a billion dollars of damage here. I never could have imagined it," while New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has called the devastation “unthinkable.”
The final season of ‘Jersey Shore’ airs on MTV Australia Wednesdays @ 9.30pm. You can catch up on the latest episode below…
