According to perezhilton, Jess has been dropped from her record label Sony Nashville, which released her country album 'Come On Over' last year. Although she topped the country charts at the time, the album only went on to sell 200 000 units, and was widely slated by listeners and critics alike.
Hollyscoop.com reports the word on the ground is that the label has been furious with her ever since she repeatedly forgot the lyrics to her own songs during her tour with Rascal Flatts. Her name has been reportedly wiped from the roster at the label, and she was also notably absent from the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday.
Jessica’s rep has confirmed that she is no longer with Sony Nashville, although they have a more palatable explanation. The spokesman tells UsMagazine.com, “She was on loan to Sony Nashville for her country album,” and has assured the media that the singer "is and has always been an Epic artist." In other words, she still has a recording contract with the parent company.
During promotion of her album last year, Jessica claimed to have dumped pop music once and for all for a country music career, also claiming she would never make another pop record. Simpson told the media, "I am a country girl. I grew up in Texas, and country music was what I listened to."
So is Jessica Simpson’s fleeting love affair with country music over, and more importantly, where/what/who will she do next? Perhaps a career in children’s music would be the way forward – there’s less risk of forgetting lyrics to Baa Baa Black Sheep…
