But the diva hopes to turn public opinion around this Christmas; news has broken that the 'Touch My Body' singer will be starring in a film project inspired by her best selling Christmas album, 'Merry Christmas'.
According to the New York Daily News, Mariah will have plenty of chances to don barely there Santa-eske clobber in her new movie musical 'Tennessee', which is about a small town facing destruction by real-estate developers during the holidays.
The star's producing partner Benny Medina explains to the newspaper, "Mariah doesn't want to let that happen. Her character uses song and love to keep the Christmas spirit alive."
Mariah adds, "Since I recorded the Christmas album, I've always wanted to make a movie to go with it, something that people could watch and hear and enjoy every year. I'm into it. I'm all about the holiday season."
According to Perezhilton.com, the film has already got good reviews Tribeca Film Festival and the director Lee Daniels was so impressed, he has decided to cast Mariah in a new film called 'Push'. Mrs Nick Cannon will apparently play a Harlem social worker.
By all accounts, the story line to 'Push' sounds decidedly gritty and if the movie is as good as the book, (and if Mimi's acting has improved post-breakdown) then she may just have a box office hit on her hands.
