Question: What do you say to an emo kid to make him cry outside the mall?
Answer: Anything.
Luckily, emo soundgods My Chemical Romance don't seem to pay much heed to jokes (in fact, that's downright predictable, isn't it?) For rather than bursting into tears over something that's been upsetting them, they're instead asking all their emo friends to engage in a black march across London, to protest at what they claim is an inaccurate stereotyping of the band by the British media.
What's making them march is that the band has been described as a "suicide cult" by numerous media sources, following the actions of a 13 year old English girl called Heather Bond, who recently took her own life. Heather was described at the inquest of her death as an emo girl, who believed death was "glamorous"; listed My Chemical Romance as her favourite band; and had cut her wrists on previous occasions, explaining to her dad that it was an "emo initiation ceremony".
To date, 300 fans are reported to be donning their mourning black, and preparing to participate in My Chemical Romance's call, which will see protesters walking from Hyde Park pond to the office of the Daily Mail newspaper.
In the meantime, there are sceptics as to whether the combined force of all those emos will be enough to sway public opinion. Because, after all, it might take a lot more emo kids to do something than would otherwise be the case, as the following joke illuminates;
Question: How many emo kids does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Answer: Three. One to replace the light bulb, and two to write a poem about how they missed the old one.
Lucky those emos don't listen to jokes.
