Okay, first things first, the group has just announced an Australian tour – there first in, like, forever. You can expect a whole lot of choreographed dancing and classic tracks like 'Hanging Tough' alongside new material. Whether the 30-something members will give their very late '80s/early '90s back catalogue a contemporary makeover, remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, back in the US they've invited ladies to join them on a romantic boat cruise through the Caribbean. The three-day trip will see the group performing and mingling with the crowds. A spokesperson for the ocean liner company told Associated Press most of the tickets were sold to “women in their 20s and 30s”. No surprises there. Whether any of these women will have their teenage fantasies fulfilled, also remains to be seen.
New Kids on the Block reunited last year after a 14-year hiatus. They hit the big time in 1989 with 'Hanging Tough' and by the time 'Step by Step' was released in 1990, they were the biggest band in the world. That was until the teeny-booper backlash started. Now, they’re cashing in on the whole ‘let’s wear a suit and pretend we’re gown up’ cache that comes from growing out of being a boy band.
