The lyrics to the song are not complimentary to say in the least. They include the words: you ugly girl/ you can not sing/ can't even lip sync/ apparently money/ can even buy you dignity But Pete Wentz has not bitten back about the hard core Canadian rock band Neurosonic taking the piss of his honey; the surgically enhanced rock princess, Ashlee Simpson. Indeed, when reports recently emerged that Pete had issued a "cease and desist" order against Neurosonic that would prevent them playing the song, inspired by Ashlee's disastrous lip syncing botch job on Saturday Night Live several years ago, Pete remained steadfastly Zen. His representative, Bob McLynn, told the press: "I've never heard of [the song]. Pete's never heard of it. No one's ever heard of it. [And anyway,] Pete's not the kind of guy who would do a cease or desist with anything. He believes in artistic freedom." And after an ambiguous silence of a week or so, Neurosonic obviously got all the attention that a Z-list rock band was going to get on the issue, because today they've come clean and said that Pete never threatened to take legal action at all. The band made an official statement yesterday, which quoted vocalist Jason Darr as saying: "Anyone silly enough to believe I was serious about the comment I made at my New York City Knitting Factory performance has no sense of humor. Before we played our song 'So Many People' I joked that Pete Wentz had taken out a cease-and-desist for the song because my lyrics are all about Ashlee Simpson's 'Saturday Night Live' debacle as well as celebrity culture The song is tongue-in-cheek and it was mostly meant to blow off steam about a subject that is laughable at best- it is not meant to be malicious. I do mean every word of the song though, so you can take it or leave it. It's only rock 'n' roll." Yep, it's only rock n roll. But it always helps to ride on the coat tails of a more successful unit on your way to the sausage roll shop. But before you think this is just another tale of cheap media whoring by wanna be rock and roll celebrities... No, we've got nothing to say really. Go ahead, think it. Everyone else is.
