The pair made their decision on Monday night (June 8), US time.
After Heidi's hospitalisation with a stomach ulcer, Spencer said: "We gave it our all, but now it's about health. Doctors are going to be with her the next three days and it's just, you know, we went back in and we proved to ourselves that it wasn't about us. It was a life-changing experience."
Heidi's sister and fellow 'Hills' star Holly Montag will take their place on the show.
Speidi’s stint on the show made ’The Hills’ look like an afternoon watching paint dry.
They first left the Costa Rican jungle a week ago amid rumours they claimed to be too rich and pretty to be on the show; then they came back again, collective tail between their legs, saying they wanted to do their bit for charidee and learn some life lessons from their Z-list co-stars.
On Thursday night, they spent a night in a cold, dark cave called the “Lost Chamber” with nothing but a sleeping bag, potty, bread and water for company.
The next day Heidi was rushed to hospital and Spencer’s sis Stephanie Tweeted: “Heidi was rushed to the hospital and has an IV in her arm after being locked in a dark room for 3 days with no food or water."
Heidi was diagnosed with a stomach ulcer, and reports claiming the couple were going to sue the show for “torturing” them popped up quicker than a gang of suspicious meerkats in the face of a rival group.
Producers susequently hit back saying nothing of the sort happened.
Phew…
The good news is, is that after receiving treatment for her gut woes, Heidi is now fighting fit again.
The couple’s publicist kind of confirmed - kinda not - that the couple won’t be suing the production company. She said: “There have been many reports that surfaced over the weekend regarding Spencer and Heidi Pratt. Many of these reports are false and inaccurate, including any reports of 'torture' on the show.
“What we can say at this time is that Heidi went to a hospital in San Jose, Costa Rica, Saturday evening because she was not feeling well. She has been released from the hospital and is doing well. The couple remains in Costa Rica.”
