Nick Kyrgios' Embarrassing Tennis Rampage Cost Him A Whopping $167,000
Nick Kyrgios is in hot water ~surprise, surprise~ after having a big ol’ hissy fit at the Cincinnati Masters.
The Australian tennis player has been fined a whopping AUD$166,714 for an outburst that saw him call the chair umpire “a fkn tool” and secretly smash two tennis racquets during a ‘bathroom break’.
Broadcasters apologised to viewers for Kyrgios’ behaviour after he was seen destroying the racquets against a wall on his way to the toilet – talk about a bit of anger!
The ATP announced the penalty on Thursday, along with the warning that they are looking further into the eruption to determine whether additional fines or a suspension is necessary.
If Kyrgios is suspended, this will majorly jeopardise his spot at the US Open later this month.
The world number 27 was kicked out of the Italian Open in May after he threw a chair and has previously been suspended by the ATP in 2016 for some more abysmal behaviour.
After winning the Citi Open title in Washington earlier this month, the 24-year-old said he was on an upwards swing in personal and professional life, but that apparently is not the case.
C’mon Nick, what happened to good old Australian sportsmanship? We just hope some lucky kid was given those wrecked racquets at the end of it.
