Oasis: Not Split For Good?
Noel Gallagher left Oasis fans devastated on the weekend when he announced his departure from the legendary Brit band.
In a statement on the group’s official website, the mono-browed brains of the band, wrote: "It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer."
Noel posted the comments after an altercation with his notoriously scrappy younger brother backstage at last Friday’s Rock En Seine festival in Paris (August 28). The band did not appear on stage and concert organisers were forced to alert fans of their cancellation via the venue’s big screens.
Insiders say Noel was furious after Liam turned up to the event steaming drunk. A ferocious slanging match ensued during which, Liam allegedly threw his beloved guitar – bought for him by his missus Nicole Appleton – at Noel. Noel is said to have retaliated by stamping on it and the row apparently got so violent that an ambulance was called in the event of a serious injury.
The bloody spat is said to be just one in a long line of recent violent bust-ups between the brothers.
Away from Oasis, Noel is now focusing on a solo career. Liam, meanwhile, is said to want to continue playing with the remaining members of the band using the Oasis name.
But while fans mourn the loss of the original outfit, the brothers’ ma, Peggy Gallagher, says they’ll be back.
She said: “(Liam and Noel) do love each other, but they've always been very different… I hope this isn't the end of Oasis. I don't think it is. They're just tired at the end of the tour. They've had fights before and got over it.”
