Aussie Swimmers Banned From Closing Ceremony After Turnt Night Out In Rio
Two Australian Swimmers, Emma McKeon and Josh Palmer, were doing what most of us would be doing after a pretty successful Olympics: celebrating.
However a bad hangover wasn’t the worst punishment the two athletes received for partying.
Josh Palmer, who finished 5th in heat 3 of the 100m breastroke, hit the streets of Rio. He decided to continue drinking and headed to a beach kiosk rather than heading back to the village with the others, therefore breaching the rules. However, after a few too many, reports say Palmer fell asleep on a bench and was woken by a man who forced him to withdraw $1000 cash from a nearby ATM.
By morning, Palmer was found by two Businessmen without his phone or wallet. They called the Olympic Security to come and collect the disoriented Australian.
Similarly, McKeon, 22, was partying with friends in Copacabana till 4am the next morning. Her only failure, she states on her Twitter, was not messaging her Team Manager
To clarify, I've followed AOC safety protocol in not travelling to village alone. My error was not texting my team manager. #noclosingforme

Athletes are given strict rules of conduct in which to follow including curfew and reporting to team management. As a result, Australians Olympics Committee Chef de Mission, Kitty Chiller said the athletes behaviour was "unacceptable and they breached disciplinary protocols".
She said from now on Palmer and Mckeron are to remain a the Village between 8:00pm and 8:00am local time and are only allowed to travel to sporting events in Official Rio 2016 Transport.
Australian’s have responded with an upset to the athletes ban from the ceremony, with an online petition urging Australian's to support McKeon for her fabulous performance at the Olympics.
