How to meet One Direction on tour
It's official: One Direction are only here for a few more weeks (pass the tissues, please). So for all you Australian Directioners, we’ve compiled a list of ways to meet the boys before they jet-set off on another adventure.
Unfortunately for any New Zealand Directioners the boys have already departed your shores, but keep these tips in mind for their next tour!
At the airport
Luckily for you, the boys have to get in and out of each city. Regrettably, they normally take a private jet so booking a flight won’t help you meet them.
Instead, try to find out when they are due to land or depart the city of your choice and hang around the airport. If you know the time make sure you get there an hour or so beforehand. If you don’t, get there early and be ready to camp out all day.
Note: The lads have flown in and out of each city at completely different times throughout the tour so far, so spotting a trend probably won’t help (they arrived into Perth at 2.30am!).
At the hotel
Permanently camping outside whichever hotel the boys are staying at might result in having you removed from the premises and banned for life (yikes!), but there’s nothing wrong with occasionally hanging around, right?
The best times to plot your stake out are on their arrival or departure from the hotel as they will be more likely to stop and say hello.
If not, the next best thing is waiting for the boys to come to their hotel window and wave to the fans outside. Oh, and they're usually shirtless. You’re welcome.
Book a room at the same hotel
A word of warning in advance, this is not a cheap or easy option, but if you’re a hardcore fan read on. Check where and when the boys are set to perform their concert and look at hotels in that city.
If you already know where they are staying, you’re in luck (but out of money after paying for that expensive hotel room!). If you don’t, remember that hotel staff won't tell you whether or not the lads will actually be staying at that hotel. Your best bet is to stalk Twitter and Instagram instead.
Speaking from personal experience, price jumps in hotel rooms are a pretty good tip-off. And if staff advise you of areas that are off limits, it’s usually due to “high profile guests” in residence. Shhh!
At the concert venue
While Louis playing soccer outside a venue isn’t something you’d see every day (we're so jealous of those lucky Perth Directioners!), it’s probably worth visiting your local concert arena the afternoon of the show – this is when the band does sound check.
Buy sound check party tickets
These don’t come cheap, selling at almost $400 a pop. And while all tickets have already sold out for the remaining legs of this tour, it’s definitely something to remember for next year.
Included in the experience is an A Reserve seat in the first 10 rows of the concert, a souvenir One Direction card on a lanyard, light refreshments and access to the arena before the doors officially open for the pre-show sound check.
While this package doesn’t include actually meeting the lads, you have more of a chance if you’re around when no one else is, right?
Win a competition
Radio stations often run meet-and-greet style competitions and this is the most guaranteed way to get up close and personal with the boys. Listen to 1D-friendly stations and check their websites regularly for competition announcements.
Use social networking
The best way to find out where the boys are, or are going to be, is by checking Twitter and Instagram. The user @1Dupdates sometimes tweets their whereabouts, or if you have the time, scroll through the #1D, #1DOz and #OneDirection hashtags.
If you are one of the lucky few that have had the chance to meet Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan or Zayn Malik in person during this tour leave a comment below telling us all about it!
