EXCLUSIVE: Reece Mastin talks long-distance relationship with Rhiannon Fish
One of Australia’s favourite entertainment couples, Reece Mastin and Rhiannon Fish, are set to put their relationship to the test next year when the ‘Home and Away’ beauty departs our shores for a shot at the big time in LA.
But despite the epic distance, Mastin is confident the pair can make it work and has revealed that Rhiannon moving to the US was a decision they made together.
“It was kind of a joint decision because she was very reluctant to leave, not just me but her family as well, so we came to the decision where it was like ‘you need to go’ because you can’t just hold back on everything because of life here,” the ‘Girls (All Around the World)’ singer told MTV Australia.
“So we’ll try our best to make it work and I think it will and hopefully, I mean, the plan is for me to be over there. It’s going to be a struggle but anything like that will be, we’ll make it work.”
Earlier this year, the two lovebirds hit headlines when Reece found himself in the middle of an alleged cheating scandal – something that he vehemently denied while Rhiannon stuck by this side.
But speaking of the incident, the 18-year-old coolly explained that gossip and speculation is just part and parcel of being in the public eye.
“The worst part is our lives aren’t our own lives, they’re everybody else’s lives to view and I get caught smoking in the street and it’s a big deal,” he shared.
“If I wasn’t who I am and I got caught smoking down the street nobody would care. So it’s one of those things where you’ve got to view it as ‘my life is awesome and I love it,’ but at the same time it comes with 10 times the repercussions of everything that you’re going to do.”
As for the cheating claims, Reece admitted: “It was a struggle and we got through it and we understand that stuff does happen like that and it gets out in the media.
“We’ve always been a couple that have tried to distance ourselves from the media anyway so we’ll just keep doing that.”
But like most actors and musicians caught in the entertainment spotlight, it’s their craft that they want fans to focus on – not rumours about their private lives.
Having just released his latest single ‘Girls (All Around the World),’ Reece is now looking forward to his Lil Rockers being able to get their hands on his upcoming album – a record which he promises will have a rockier edge than his current hit.
“’Girls’ is definitely a good vibe, but the album’s got a very different feel to it. More rock and industrialised and a bit more experimental with a few more different instruments,” he dished.
“My band has actually grown since last year so there’s more stuff they can actually use and I try to base everything off what it would sound like live. So it’s cool to explore with weird instruments that not a lot of people use. I just tried to find that hybrid of a bunch of different sounds and make it my own.”
The star added: “…Don’t judge the album on what the current single is. I do love that song and it’s really catchy, but we were missing that rock edge and the album is solidly based on rock.
“Just wait for that and you should be alright.”
