Rihanna gets traditional Maori tattoo in New Zealand – watch the video!
Rihanna has made the most of her time in New Zealand this week, getting inked with a traditional Maori tattoo on her right hand.
While Riri is certainly no stranger to body art, the process of traditional Ta Moko tattoos is different to your usual needle machine – with the design being etched into the skin using a chisel, ink pigment and a mallet.
The tattoo was done by local artist Inia Taylor at the Moko Ink studio in Auckland, and stretches from the base of her fingernails to below her right wrist, consisting of a series of delicate arrows and lines.
In a video uploaded to YouTube by Kiwi musician Tiki Taane, the ‘Diamonds’ singer is seen grimacing throughout the painful procedure, but seems to find it particularly difficult to maintain her composure as Taylor moves onto tattooing her knuckles.
This isn’t the first time the superstar has been inked while in New Zealand either. Back in 2008 while touring with then boyfriend Chris Brown, Rihanna had another Maori-inspired design tattooed on her right hand, which she later revealed “hurt like hell.”
Rihanna has been performing across Australia and New Zealand for the last week, receiving rave reviews from her fans Down Under.
