Robert Pattinson Speaks Up About The Racist ‘Demons’ Who Attack FKA Twigs
Robert Pattinson has always had a pretty wonky relationship with his own fame — especially when it comes to the fact that his personal life was/is totally a matter of public discussion and intrigue.
But things have taken an unexpectedly icky turn for the worse with the treatment of his current romantic interest, rumored fiancée FKA Twigs, so now he’s speaking out against the “faceless blob” which has been so nasty to her.
The half-Jamaican, half-Spanish musician has been on the receiving end of “relentless” and vicious attacks online, often centered on her race, ever since she became romantically involved with the former “Twilight Saga” star.
Unlike Pattinson, who has exactly zero social media accounts, FKA Twigs has active Instagramand Twitter accounts, and even the most cursory review of the comments made to either will reveal a shameful sampling of the terrible things being said to her on a daily basis.
Twigs has said before that she “can’t even begin to explain how awful it is” to read some of the words being thrown at her and that it sometimes “makes you want to just stop everything sometimes.”
And while Pattinson doesn’t usually like to talk about anything related to his private life, he does have something to say about what’s happening to Twigs.
“I was talking to my dad about this and I bet him that if he looked up Nelson Mandela’s funeral on YouTube, the first comment would be a racist one. And it was, with like a million upvotes,” Pattinson told NME during an interview to promote his latest pic, “Life.”
“What I don’t get is why,” he continued. “I think it’s because most normal people are not commenters – I’ve never met anyone who’s left a comment on anything. It’s just demons who live in basements.”
Pattinson added that he thinks the crowd responsible for the comments is just “this faceless blob, where the more you hate it, the bigger it gets, because it’s all in your head.”
The way that Pattinson regards her, BTW, is as “an amazing, amazing artist.”
