Russia Has Been Officially Banned From The 2018 Winter Olympics
The International Olympics Committee (IOC) announced that Russia has been suspended for "systematic manipulation of the anti-doping system."
However, the IOC also stated some athletes will be able to compete if they're clean, but will have to do so as a neutral team with no flag or anthem.
The committee has also banned Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Mutko for life from the Olympics for his role in the country's doping program, suspended Russia's Olympic Committee president Alexander Zhukov as an IOC member, and fined the committee $19.7M to pay for investigations into the case.
"The facts are that in Russia there was systemic manipulation of doping and the anti-doping system...that also took place at Sochi 2014 [Winter Olympics," Samual Schmid, the head of the investigation said in a media conference.
Russia could refuse the offer and boycott the games, but we will have to watch this space.
