You're going to want everything from BNKR's first ever capsule collection
If you're a living breathing female, chances are you've heard of BNKR (and by heard we mean you've probably spent hours trawling their pages and pages of bang on Aussie fashion.)
Not only have the guys over at online fashion store, BNKR, been providing fresh-to-death threads for the gals but they've today launched their first ever capsule collection - CBKD x BNKR designed by Cooper Davis.
Supporting and championing homegrown Aussie fashion? Now that's an idea we can get behind.
Whilst the seven-piece strong collection might be humble in volumn it is certainly making up for it with the bold and futuristic aesthetic that's shouting out from the fabric.
“The Jumanji print is a bold tribal print based on imagery from music videos by M.I.A.... It’s exotic and a little dangerous,” said designer Cooper.
“The Clairvoyant print was hand drawn by me! I worked on creating a print with strong black and white line work inspired by Japanese artwork.”
Continuing the Aussie-lovefest they've placed up-and-coming It-Girl, model Elfy Scott, in charge of showing off the collection and she's literally making us want every.single.piece.
In celebration of the release of the new collection we sat down with the 22-year-old Elfy to chat all things farshun.....
MTV Style: Can you tell us about your background and how you got into the fashion world?
Elfy: My entrance into the fashion world was I guess really unceremonious it just started off approaching agencies then I got signed with EMG and then got signed with Jaz Daly Management earlier this year.
MTV Style: Did you grow up loving fashion?
Elfy: It actually just kind of happened because I’m a writer I ended up working with a women’s fashion publication named Catalogue magazine and so I learnt a lot about fashion as just part of my job.
MTV Style: Have you always been passionate about writing?
Elfy: Yeah absolutely, I mean that is my number one passion. I’m a freelance writer and I love journalism and I write short non-fiction pieces for myself as well. And a lot of opinion articles as well!
MTV Style: Do you have any other hidden talents?
Elfy: Well I used to be involved in art and illustrations and I was in a couple of bands but things fall by the wayside when you decide what you ultimately want to focus on.
MTV Style: Tell us a little about your relationship with the guys over at Fashion Bunker…
Elfy: I first met up with Fashion Bunker back in November, 2014 and it was just sort of love at first sight. When I met them all they were all so lovely and they have such a diverse range of clothing. I think they’re just doing such a fantastic job.
MTV Style: Can you tell us a little bit about the shoot you did with them for the CBKD X BNKR capsule collection?
Elfy: It’s definitely an interesting collection! It’s very tribal with a lot of animal prints but then there are hip-hop influences with drop-crotch pants and interesting silhouettes. But then it’s also strangely high fashion…it’s difficult to explain but it’s definitely exciting!
MTV Style: Can you tell us about your own personal style?
Elfy: To be honest I don’t think that I have any comprehensive personal style as such. I choose pieces I like when I see them, I wear oriental things but I also like leather too! I just like what I see…you wake up feeling different every day so why wouldn’t you dress like that too?
MTV Style: Do you think the Australian fashion industry is in a good place at the moment?
Elfy: Yeah, absolutely. There are so many great designers coming out of the works at the moment. I mean Adelaide especially, there are so many independent designers. I think Australia is fostering this movement where there is actually a lot of support for independent designers and you can see that across a lot of publications, where they are doing their absolute best to prop up independent designers and make sure that they don’t fall by the wayside when it comes to big international brands.
MTV Style: How can Aussie’s better support the local fashion industry?
Elfy: I completely understand that it has a lot to do with financial constraints because not everyone can spend $500 on a shirt, no matter how fantastic the designer is. It’s also about avoiding giving money to the people who act unethically and who produce things on a mass scale that you wouldn’t necessarily like the ethos of the brand. It’s about making smart consumer choices.
MTV Style: Who are some of your favourite Australian designers at the moment?
Elfy: Romance Was Born, Desert Designs, Jamie Lee Major, HLSK (jewellery rang), Meadowlark (New Zealand jewellery label), Dyspnea.
MTV Style: What are your top beauty tips?
Elfy: It’s the things you’ve heard a thousand times before but you need to drink a crap load of water! I think I drink around 2-3 litres a day and avoid refined sugars. It makes you feel so much better when you drop caffeine and sugar, they’re both just so terrible for your body!
MTV Style: Who would be your dream designer to work with?
Elfy: Romance Was Born, Desert Designs, Jamie Lee Major, HLSK (jewellery rang), Meadowlark (New Zealand jewellery label), Dyspnea!
MTV Style: Your advice to young people who want to work in the fashion industry?
Elfy: Honestly, just stick to your guns, be who you are and eventually people will start respecting your for that. In the modelling industry I am half a foot shorter than everybody else and I’ve got these athletic muscular legs so I don’t look like other models but I kept trying and it eventually happened for me. You don’t have to fit into a mould anymore.
MTV Style: Are you a big Instagram user?
Elfy: Ahhh yes a little bit! I showed somebody my Instagram the other day and they said, “you realise you’d have a lot more followers if you stopped posting images of cats!”
