Everything We Know About The Offspring & Sum 41's 2020 Tour Down Under
Spike up your hair, don those (purely decorative) sweatbands and grab your low-rise jean shorts cause The Offspring and Sum 41 – the sartorial kings of ‘90s and ‘00s pop punk – are heading down under for a big ol’ throwback tour.
Fashion aside, these two bands were essential in breathing life back into punk post ‘80s and firming the genre’s place in mainstream music for decades onwards. Their angsty, upbeat riffs were everywhere; from The OC to King of The Road and all over MTV's own music channels too. Now, you can catch all those anthems live on their joint Australian and NZ tour this April. The Offspring are technically the headliner, but Sum 41 will have a full hour-long set too, so it really is gonna be massive for both bands. We wholeheartedly encourage all you old moshers to come out of retirement for this one.
Aside from occasional appearances on festival circuits, this’ll be the first time both bands have toured in Australia for years. When you think about it, it’s not surprising these legends have fallen into favour again over the past few years, despite many of their biggest hits dropping before Billie Eilish was born. Pop punk is peak nostalgia: its fun and lighthearted tunes were created in a world where mixtapes and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater ruled. The days of Blink 182's "What's My Age Again?" feel so much simpler than those of Billie Eilish's "bad guy", and man do we miss 'em.
For this reason and many others, we are stoked by pop punk's revival – here’s how you can get amongst what will be one of the best events of the year.
