Broken Hearts Club: Here Are The Biggest Celeb Splits Of 2016
Drake & Rihanna
Fan’s hearts fluttered when Drake dropped this bombshell at the 2016 VMA’s, presenting Ri Ri with the Video Vanguard award, "She's someone I've been in love with since I was 22 years old”. Unfortunately, the world’s most perfect couple (Scorpio/ Pisces combo, how did it not work??) called it quits in early October. Since then, the former couple with an 'on again/off again' history have remained friends, with Drizzy being linked to rapper India Rose and now J. Lo! Let’s hope this doesn’t mean the end to banging collabs like Take Care and Too Good.
If you don’t believe in love, Brad and Angie’s break up may just confirm your suspicions. The King and Queen of Hollywood's fairytale love affair proved too good to be true when in September TMZ broke the news of their split due to ‘irreconcilable differences.' After two years of marriage, six adorable kids and thousands of paparazzi shots, Angie was said to be attempting to gain full custody as rumours of an affair with Brad's co-star Marion Cotillard arose. A perfect couple name like this only comes once in a lifetime. RIP.
Calvin & Taylor
In a world of change, there is always one constant – a new TSwizzle break up on the horizon. DJ phenomenon Calvin Harris and Swift called it quits after 15 months of dating back in June. Whilst the break up seemed quiet at first, dramas began to boil after the release of Harris’ smash ‘This Is What You Came For' featuring Rihanna, co-written by Swift. Playing out like a soap- opera, in the truest Swifty fashion, the break up garnered responses from nemesis Katy Perry and girl squad member Selena Gomez on Twitter. #itwentdowninflames.
The supermodel and popstar pulled the plug after a year and a half of dating due to conflicting schedules last month. The two reportedly still have ‘a great deal of love for one another.’ Fans were left waiting anxiously as the two were set to take the same stage at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Luckily no awkwardness ensued as Bella absolutely killed the runway while Abel belted new tracks from his latest release ‘Starboy’.
Demi & Wilmer
After 6 years of back and forth, Ross and Rachel style ‘will they/ won’t they’ dating Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderama finally ended their relationship. The couple were never shy to voice their public praise of one another, with the break up coming as a massive shock to fans of the couple. Demi and Wilmer have decided they ‘work better as friends’ – no social media shade throwing to be seen here!
Another Swift breakup. After their brief but whirlwind love affair, the two ended things after 4 months of dating. Apparently Hiddleston, who wore an ‘I Heart TS’ tank and was inducted into the girl squad (the ultimate test of loyalty), wanted their relationship to be more public than Swift was comfortable with.
Lady Gaga & Taylor Kinney
Meeting on the set of Gaga’s 2009 smash ‘You and I’ the engaged couple were together for 5 years. Fans were surprised at Gaga’s willingness to settle down, however this normalcy didn’t last for long when the two ended their engagement in July with sources stating it was career pressures driving the lovers apart. Gaga even said back in 2014, "he is the right guy. I have that feeling. I just know it” :’(
JLo & Capser Smart
The 19 year age gap separating the two may have just proven too much after their five year relationship. J.Lo is said to have ended things with her back up dancer boy toy after he refused to attend a charity event with her. Casper instead, took a boys trip to Vegas to watch a UFC fight. Jenny from the Block seems to be in good spirits though, being recently linked to Taylor Swift’s ex Calvin Harris in September.
Ozzy & Sharon Osbourne
Although they may not be able to remember large portions of their relationship, the OG celeb duo have left a permanent mark on the world with their tumultuous marriage. 35 years of marriage, sex, drugs & rock n roll came to an end this year and after millions of albums sold, a reality show and three kids. We’re sad to see the first couple of Heavy Metal come to an end.
Mariah Carey & James Packer
The ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ diva and billionaire business mogul ended things after a spat on a yacht in Greece. Carey is reportedly charging Packer an ‘inconvenience fee’ because the break up interrupted her family’s life. She's definitely a businesswoman.
Iggy Azalea & Nick Young
Iggy reportedly called off her engagement with Young after watching security footage and discovering that he had brought other women into the home while she wasn’t there. The Mullumbimby rapper diffused rumours over Twitter that she had ‘kicked him out’ stating that he was the one moving out.
