Taylor Swift Wrote A Scathing Statement Slamming Scooter Braun & Scott Borchetta For Not Letting Her Sing Old Tracks
ICYMI, Taylor Swift is in a brutal neck-hold by music pillars Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta and things are heating up even more after she released a scathing statement slamming the two men.
To give you a quick low-down, Taylor signed with Borchetta’s label Big Machine in a 13-year deal that expired in November 2018. At the young age of 15, she signed over the rights to her masters released with the label, giving Big Machine the ultimate say in where her music can be used and performed.
Having released her debut album through to 2017’s Reputation with Big Machine, they have the rights to every single banger in those works and as the years went on, the value of those songs became exponential.
Fast forward to July 2019, and Scooter Braun (who manages the likes of Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, and notably has tried to dismantle Tay Tay’s hugely successful career) bought out Big Machine under his Ithaca Holdings.
Now stay with us, because sh*t is really hitting the fan for Taylor.
The country-turned-pop star has recently been announced as the American Music Awards’ Artist of the Decade. HUGE.
Taylor and her team planned to serve an epic career-spanning medley of her greatest hits, however Scooter and Scott are not giving her the rights to use her OWN music as she’s contractually not allowed to “re-record” her masters until next year.
Yep, according to Scooter and Scott, these songs appearing on TV (and not in their entirety) is a re-recording. SMH.
In addition to this career-defining performance, she’s also revealed a documentary in the pipeline with Netflix, following her journey to success. Sounds dreamy, BUT again, she’s not allowed to use her own music thanks to these chumps.
It looks like Taylor is at a loss and she is, rightfully so, very unhappy.

In a long statement posted to her Twitter, she’s been incredibly transparent with her 85 million followers, asking them to help free her from these tight shackles and “talk some sense into the men who are exercising tyrannical control over someone who just wants to play the music she wrote”.
Ugh, doesn’t it just make your heart sink to hear about how spinelessly greedy some people can be.
Taylor Swift, we hear you and we stand with you. Nobody should have over a decade’s worth of work in the hands of someone who's had no part in creating it.
If these oppressors aren’t willing to work it out behind closed doors, then consider our pitchforks out and ready to battle! Nobody deserves to silenced, and particularly when they have a voice like Taylor Swift.
