Aston Shuffle: ‘No one has sent us any hate mail yet’
Aston Shuffle have definitely put Canberra on the map, with the Aussie duo recently marking 10 years in the music scene here in Oz, just don’t remind them!
“You’re not supposed to say that!,” Mikah Freeman and Vance Musgrove told us.
Despite it making them feel old, the producers have said that it has been all part of the plan.
“I’ve personally aspired to longevity in our music career,” said Freeman.
Well judging by their fans’ response on their new album Photographs, this is one goal they’re going to keep achieving.
“No one has sent us any hate mail yet. The response has been awesome. It’s kind of daunting because we’ve been working on this massive project for the past 2 years so you put your heart on your sleeve when you do something like this, but the response has been amazing.”
Since releasing their second album in March this year, their loyal fans have been giving the boys big ups for their catchy tunes on social media.
“The day it came out people were Instagramming the physical copy of the album and tweeting lyrics of songs and then tagging us in it. So it’s really cool to see every minute detail you have been obsessing over for two years has made a connection with someone.”
@theastonshuffle so pleased I imported your album - it's everything I wanted it to be and so worth the wait. Thanks guys

The talented producers already have a loyal following, however this new album has allowed them to tap into a larger and younger fan base.
“A majority of our old fans have definitely stuck with us… but we’ve seen a whole bunch of new fans, who are definitely new because they are like 16!”
And the reason for this? “Well we’ve changed our sound a lot over the years as well, so there’s been a progression in our songwriting.”
Although the local lads look up to various artists in the industry, they drew a lot of their inspiration for Photographs on personal experiences and feelings which is why this has been a very important album for them.
“The songwriting came from life experiences... so in terms of the whole production side of it, artists are one side of it but it’s definitely not the whole entire picture.”
Something that has also added to their success of the album has been how the boys have used their music as a base to produce some pretty sweet videos. From the mirrorball suit in the ‘Tear It Down’ clip, to the Andy Dick cameo in their new song ‘Back and Forth.’
So is another 10 years on the cards?
“If I was getting that Avicii money, give me two years of that and I’d be out [laughs]!”
