Good News: A 'Call Me By Your Name' Sequel Is Well & Truly Happening
Good news for a change: a sequel to Call Me By Your Name is going ahead(!), but because its director Luca Guadagnino is in strict quarantine lockdown in Milan, it’s going to take a little longer than expected.
Per IndieWire, Guadagnino recently told Italian publication Gay.It that he was planning on flying to the US to meet a screenwriter for the sequel, but after the COVID-19 outbreak, he’d had to put it all on hold.
“I was going to America to meet a writer I love very much, whose name I don’t want to mention, to talk about the second part,” Guadagnino said. “Unfortunately, everything is cancelled. Of course, it’s a great pleasure to work with Timothée Chalamet, Armie Hammer, Michael Stulhbarg, Esther Garrel and the other actors. They will all be there in the new film.”
Yep, Guadagnino reckons ALL of the original cast will be back for the sequel INCLUDING Timothée Chalamet. Happy darn Friday.
Actor Armie Hammer, for his part, told Vulture in March 2019 that he was iffy about signing up to the sequel. “[The first one] really perfect storm of so many things, that if we do make a second one, I think we’re setting ourselves up for disappointment.
“I don’t know that anything will match up to the first, you know? I mean, look. If we end up with an incredible script, and Timmy’s in, and Luca’s in, I’d be an asshole to say no. But at the same time, I’m like, that was such a special thing, why don’t we just leave that alone?”
Yes that's right Hammer, you would be an asshole. Please don't deprive us of this, our one joy right now. Let's hope all these months' of quarantine will soften him up. We have no doubt this second film'll be a winner – whenever it lands.
