Honourary Aussie Tom Hanks Is Finally Back On US Soil After Weeks Of Coronavirus Isolation
It was bound to happen sometime: the day our favourite honourary Aussie, Tom Hanks, and his wife, Rita Wilson, would leave us to return home to LA. Sigh.
The couple, who had been isolating on the Gold Coast after both testing positive for coronavirus, flew in to the US on Friday last week, according to reports by the New York Post.
Hello folks. @ritawilson and I want to thank everyone here Down Under who are taking such good care of us. We have Covid-19 and are in isolation so we do not spread it to anyone else. There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness. We are taking it one-day-at-a-time. There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no? Remember, despite all the current events, there is no crying in baseball. Hanx
Apparently, after their private jet landed, the 63-year-old actor was seen “stretching down to touch the tarmac then doing a celebration dance” before hopping into his Range Rover to head home with Wilson.
The couple had been in Oz for the pre-production of Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley flick when they announced earlier this month that they’d tested positive for coronavirus. They were the first major celebs to catch the deadly virus.
“We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too,” Hanks tweeted at the time. “We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires.”

Hanks takes home with him a very important lesson, one that will no doubt be remembered for years to come. And that’s how to properly consume vegemite.
After sharing an update from a hospital on the Goldie that showed two slices of toast with frankly terrifying amounts of the Aussie ~delicacy~, Hanks was told by every single Aussie on Instagram that he wasn’t doing it right and also, where was the butter?!
Thankfully, he took the feedback well, sharing in a post a couple days later that he’d now learnt not to spread it so thick.
We can only hope that other people who have tested positive for COVID-19 fare as well as these two – and that Hanks’ vegemite error helps save others from salt overload. That sh*t was gross.
