How To Keep Summer Kicking On When You Feel Like Life As You Know It Is Over
This is for all the summer babies out there.
Yes the longer days and sun-soaked evenings are now in the past, but instead of spiralling into memories of singlets and denim shorts, there are still several ways you can keep summer alive.
The colder months don't have to equal hibernation and our vivacious flair for activitiy when the sun's out can continue! So push aside your doona covers and jump straight into any or all of the following activities...
For the first time in many years, IT WON'T BE RAINING ON THE MARDI GRAS PARADE. So let your rainbow flag fly high and celebrate the 40th Annual Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras on March 3 with as much sparkle as you can muster. Plenty of venues on Oxford Street are putting on special offerings including the Beresford who will not only be pumping at night, but also serving up a bespoke brunch on Sunday to soak up your parade hangover.
PLUS, music icon Cher is in town to headline the official Mardi Gras party. Enough said.
"Maybe we should just watch Netflix (and chill)?" is one of the most common suggestions to crop up during the colder months. But why not sit back at sunset and take in some of 2018's biggest films?
For the last month of screenings in March, The Sunset Cinema at North Sydney is the perfect location to bring mates (or a date), a picnic and relax in front of a flick.
There will also be a bar and smorgasbord of treats on offer from The Greens including prawn brioche rolls, slow-cooked beef brisket, gourmet cheese platters and chocolate dipped strawberries. DROOL.
You might not be able to afford an overseas adventure to Thailand, but why not plan a road trip getaway to the warmer states up north.
Pick your route, stumble upon some hidden gems, stay overnight at a winery or set up camp on the coast and escape the chaos of your everyday. Give yourselves more time to relax and keep that summer explorer motivation kicking by perfecting the art of the long weekend.
Keep the cocktails coming
There are still venues across Australia that ooze summer ~vibes~ even when it's cold out. The trick is in combining outdoor ambience as well as a slick interior to set the backdrop for endless cocktails. Take Coogee Pavilion for instance; with a rooftop and plenty of room to roam, who says you still can't dip in to those beach views?
Alternatively, take an outdoor sport inside like putt putt golf at Holey Moley or test your skills at indoor rockclimbing.
Whether you hit up the hot springs outside Melbourne on your road trip, or a try a local spa's indoor pool, take advantage of all the facilities on offer and bridge the gap between beach season.
Thrown in a sauna and a fake tan, you won't even be able to tell it's not summer!
Live like a local
So often we don't look right in our backyard for new attractions to peak our amusement. Why not visit an innovative museum exhibition, theatre and art openings or shop up a stor at the myriad of food and fashion markets available across Australia.
We also can't forget that Australia home to the biggest festival of light, music and ideas - Vivid Sydney! Kicking off May 25 to June 16, the city and select outer suburbs come alive with stunning electric displays. Head here for the full list of events.
