This Irish Island Could Be All Yours For Five Months... If You’re Willing To Give Up Netflix
The internet can be kind of a drag. Sure, we have access to some great TV (Don’t F*ck With Cats rocked my world), and meeting potential love interests without having to leave the house is convenient, but there are definitely some downsides to being so connected. All day, every day access to work emails, for one. These days it’s harder and harder to switch off, which could be why people all around the world are hurriedly filling out applications to live on a remote island with no WiFi, no hot shower and close to zero electricity.
Here’s the deal: the good folk who run the beautiful Great Blasket Island off Ireland’s Atlantic Coast are looking for two caretakers to live and work on the island for five months from April to October this year. The caretakers would look after the accommodation (three cottages) and the café there. It’s a paid gig, and accommodation and food are included in the deal too.

According to RTE, hundreds of people have applied for the job, despite the drawbacks. “It’s intense and tough but it’s a very unique position,” Alice Hayes, who placed the ad, told RTE. “It’s back to basics – fires, candles, stoves, wildlife and nature.” Ideally the people who land the gig will either be very good friends or in an incredibly healthy relationship as the job obviously involves spending a lot of time together. (I would bring some board games.)
What do you reckon, would you give up Netflix and go live the simple life for a while? I have to say, I see the appeal.
