Now, what better way to re-enter society than by kicking things off with Melbourne Music Week, because the hard work of organising a social schedule has practically been done for you. And with the iconic event celebrating its 10th anniversary, you know this is going to be one hell of a party.
With 300 music acts performing during 70 events across 10 days from the 14th - 23rd November, you'll be appropriately rewarded for putting on proper pants and brushing your hair. Live Music Safari
If the words 'live' 'music' or 'safari' weren't enough to pique your curiosity then we know one that will surely get the blood pulsing in your veins: FREE. To celebrate the 10th anniversay MMW will be starting the party the right way, with an opening night full of free immersive music at 12 different locations throughout the city. No matter what your jam is you'll be able to get ~wild~ to hip hop, rock, techno, electronic and soul until the wee hours of the morning.
Mobile Music Making Workshop
If you're more of a 'do-er' and want to learn about what it really takes to make music, then head along to this awesome workshop geared around teaching people how they can create, using your fricken mobile phone! Presented by the Melbourne Arts Centre, Matt Ridgway will show participants best practice strategies; how to effectively use software; and there will even be an opportunity to present your work to the wider group. Sounds like some awesome exposure for up-and-coming musos.
Your queer garden circus house dreams have been answered. Dust off your Sunday best and weirdest ensemble for a live drag show and sickening local DJs at @poofdoof X @rockcityparty: Sunset Jamboree. Yaaaaaas queen. It's never really a celebration unless there's a live drag show, is it? This year the MMW Hub will be situated at Kubik in Alexandra Gardens and one of the most anticipated events to take place there will be the Poof Doof x Rock City: Sunset Jamboree on Sunday 17th November. With a lineup of the most faaaaaaabulous in the game including YUMMY, Argonaut, Zoë Badwi, JAWBREAKERS, Duchess Kay, MIMI, Hayley Maree, Jimi The Kween, Matilda Finish, Polly Filla and Karen From Finance, this'll be a night you won't forget.
Sustainability In The Music Industry
Getting out and experiencing MMW doesn't necessarily mean you have to be fist-pumping in the front row. If you like to get the cerebral juices flowing you can head along to a panel sparking conversations around sustainability in music. Industry experts will discuss important topics around the impact things like festivals and tours have on the environment.
Summer Night Market
If you've always wanted to be one of those people who gets out on a weeknight, then here is your chance. Seize it! Nothing screams ~summer vibes~ more than a night market complete with performances from the likes of Energy Exchange, Sunnyside, Memphis LK, Loure, Pjenné and Toni Yotzi. Head along to the Queen Victoria Market smack bang in the city to enjoy all the tastes of the world, with a cold bevvy and some bangin' music. Sounds lush af.
