Author Stephanie Meyer Announces Two New 'Twilight' Books Are In The Works
The news of two new 'Twilight' books comes after the success of Meyer's new book, 'Midnight Sun', which has apparently sold more than a million copies in the first week since its release.
There hasn't been a ton of good times in 2020, but hey, at least Twilight fans are having a good run?
First, there was the August 4 release of the long-awaited fifth novel in the saga, ‘Midnight Sun’, which retells the original Twilight story from the perspective of Edward Cullen. And now this: author Stephenie Meyer has this week announced the love story of Edward and Bella will continue to be told in two more novels.
Yep, in a virtual event with US bookstore chain Books-A-Million via ELLE, Stephenie said that off the back of the success of ‘Midnight Sun’, which sold more than a million copies in the week since its release, she has plans to drop two more books in the franchise.
“There are two more books I think in the world that I want to write,” she said. “I have got them outlined and a chapter written I think of the first one, so I know it’s there.”
Unfortunately for fans, though, there’s a good chance they’ll have to wait a while to read Stephenie Meyer's brand new material. Stephenie went on to say: “I am not ready to do that right now. I want to do something brand-new. For me, a lot of the joy of writing comes from creating, and I really want to do a new world and new rules and new mythology. Mythology is kind of my thing.”
She explained that writing ‘Midnight Sun’ had been draining, likening it to be stuck behind “prison bars” and admitting, “every word was a struggle.” Apparently being in Edward Cullen's mind throughout the writing process made it even more difficult for Meyer to get the chapter's written. His intensity made her “extra anxious” during the writing process, she told the New York Times.
“No [I don't want to retell all the books from Edward Cullen's perspective]. Not at all. This is it for Edward… No, I wouldn’t want to do that – especially given that New Moon would just be a nightmare of depression and emptiness.”
Ok, so the new books won't be told from Edward Cullen's perspective; could the new books be exclusively about Renesmee and Jacob, then? We think it's about time.
And do new books mean a new Twilight movie could be on its way? Maybe, but it's unlikely that the original cast would be up for reclaiming their roles. Judging by how busy Kristin Stewert and Robert Pattinson are - and considering just how much Rob seems to resent his breakout franchise (lol) – we doubt they'd star in any sort of Twilight movie reboot – not right now, anyway.
Haven't read 'Twilight'? Lucky you, there's a ton of good stuff to catch up on. Since the original 'Twilight' release, Meyer has released several books in the franchise, including 'New Moon', 'Eclipse', 'Breaking Dawn', 'The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella', 'The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide', and 'Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined'. Stephenie Meyer is one of the most celebrated young fiction authors in the world – the success of 'Midnight Sun' is just another notch in her publishing belt.
