Union J reveal plans for their second album
British boy band Union J appear to be brushing up on their songwriting skills, after revealing they plan to use their own material for their second album.
In an interview with Digital Spy, band member Jaymi Hensley admitted: "We are going to write on album two, we are going to work with some great songwriters and we will get involved in the writing process."
While the lads did have some input on their debut self titled album, they plan to be more hands on the second time around after having been through “more experiences,” and knowing “more about sound.”
"We did write for this album and we'd done about 14 songs but they didn't go on the album, maybe because they weren't right,” said Hensley.
“The thing about writing is it's personal but also the more practice you get, the better you get,” he continued.
Fellow band member Josh Cuthbert seems just as enthusiastic to get all hands on deck, adding: "We're working with some amazing producers and writers so we wanted the first album to learn from things and hopefully on the second and third albums we will grow."
The boy band, who rose to fame on the Britain’s ‘The X-Factor’ in 2012, often find themselves compared to superstar’s, One Direction. Union J aren't ones to let their rivals’ massive success get them beat however, instead they are aiming “to do just as well as them.”
"It's a positive not a negative and when people say you're like One Direction, well that's like telling a female artist she's like Beyoncé - what's wrong with that?" said Jaymi.
Union J’s second album is due for release later this year. Watch this space.
