EXCLUSIVE: UnREAL's Aussie Cast Member Adam Demos Spills On Finding Love In The New Season
ICYMI, UnREAL is returning to your screens in just TWO weeks time. Better yet, all eight glorious episodes will drop AT ONCE.
We sat down with the series' unbelievably good-looking castmember Adam Demos (August) - who also happens to be a true blue Aussie gentleman - to discuss the myriad of upcoming plot twists fans can look forward to...
August is back! What role does he play in all the madness this season?
How lucky! The way the storyline works is it’s all-stars, so it made sense for me to come back with my relationship with Quinn and Rachel. You partner up and take part in survival style challenges. Rachel is still a producer but she thinks instead of fighting the game, she really goes for it and hooks up with few suitors along the way. Everyone knows how reality shows are made now so it’s almost funner to watch. Producers can’t feel guilty anymore because you know what you sign up for. Nowadays, people think ‘make me the villain. If I get more air time, then cool.’
Does August have a chance with Rachel?
August and Rachel definitely hook up, but to survive? I don’t want to spoil it. August has always seen something in her, there could be, but it depends on whether she’s being her real self.
How’s the reaction been since you started on UnREAL?
It’s crazy! People are starting to notice me more.
You have more than your fair share of fans who are begging for more shirtless scenes...
You don’t really look at yourself in that light or else you’re a wanker, right? But August is shirtless a lot more in Season 4, so the writers listened to the fans [laughs].
We interviewed Constance when she was in town and we discussed Season 3’s relevance to 'Me Too' (watch the interview above!) What’s your take on how the show handled the issue?
Credit to the writers! It’s such a female driven show top to bottom from the creators to the showrunner, and Constance (Quinn) and Shiri (Rachel) are really vocal about that sort of stuff. It looked like we were reacting to stuff in the media, but we shot it months before and then all this stuff comes out. We thought, 'Oh far out! Release the show already'.
Isn't Constance just the best!?
She’s the best! Now she’s one of my good friends. I’ve spent some time with her family in LA. She’s everything you’d hope to be in a human, that woman is incredible. [Our sex scene] was the first official time I met her. We hadn’t said hello! All of a sudden I’ve got my modesty outfit on and I’m like, “Hi, I’m from Wollongong.”
What’s your experience been as an Australian actor entering Hollywood in this climate?
You do hear a lot of commentary on it, but really if you’ve got morals, you should be fine. Shouldn’t you? I guess you have to question what your humour is as compared to others. But really if you’re a good dude, you shouldn’t be worrying.
Maybe because it’s been happening over there for so long and it doesn’t happen as much here, from what I know any way, it’s not built into us. We just turn up, be respectful and do a good job, we’re not involved in the whole, ‘You do this in the industry to get there’. You just lead by example and it’s so great that all this stuff is coming out because it’s just shocking when you think how long this has been going on. One thing comes out and another and it just snowballs, it’s a shame. 'Me Too', sexual harassment equal pay, it all needs to come out for everything to eventually change.
With all the episodes dropping at once – what can you tease to the fans? What do you think is the biggest moment to look out for?
That peak behind the curtain of reality TV, that’s scary. Something happens with August, Quinn and Rachel. Relationships may go deeper, things get interesting for sure. At the end, August ends up in love. It may be one of those two, or it might be someone else.
For Rachel and Quinn they start asking, 'Is this producing life what you want?' Or do we want something more?
Every episode of UnREAL Season 4 will premiere exclusively on Stan on July 17.
