Richard Branson wants to bring V Festival back to Australia
Since Big Day Out shut for business and Soundwave decided to stick to the east coast of Australia, Aussies nationwide have been looking for festival options to fill their absence.
Enter Sir Richard Branson. The airline mogul told Triple J that he is considering inserting V Festival into the Aussie festival lineup. “I hadn’t realised that Australia had such a setback. Where there’s setbacks in a country, that’s where Virgin loves to tread, so maybe we should try to get the team at V Festival to have another look at Australia.”
Hold your applause until the end of this article. The festival was rumoured to return in 2011 but the idea flopped. Now it has been five years since the festival last toured Down Under including stops in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and the Gold Coast.
In 2009 it was headlined by tastemakers The Killers, Snow Patrol, The Temper Trap and Tame Impala. In 2008 Smashing Pumpkins, Queens of the Stone Age and Duran Duran made the festival one to watch and in it’s opening season Beck, Phoenix and Gnarls Barkley wowed crowds.
No doubt 2016 or 2017 would feature as stellar a cast of talent, so we hope Branson isn’t all talk!
