Andrew's Stage Crash!
It was a fan favourite when The Beatles first released ’Let It Be’ but Andrew Stockdale received a very different reception when he performed the 1970’s hit in a pub over the weekend – in fact, he was fined $350 for his trouble!
According to The Brisbane Times, the Wolfmother front-man stage-crashed the Archive Bar in Brisbane on Sunday night and let rip a drunken rendition of The Beatles track, despite protests from the band who were playing at the time.
The Brisbane Magistrates Court heard this morning that Andrew was refused service by bar staff about 9pm because of intoxication, but his friends still attempted to buy him drinks. A short while later, security staff asked him to leave, but he refused. Staff then tried to remove him, but in retaliation, Stockdale sat down in the middle of a busy thoroughfare and “passively resisted” .
Police were then called, and the ‘Minds Eye’ hit-maker was then arrested and taken to a watch house for the night, where he refused to answer police questions. He was charged with being drunk and disorderly, failing to leave licensed premises and resisting removal of licensed premises.
His lawyer entered guilty pleas to three charges at Brisbane’s Magistrates Court this morning, reports the Sunday Morning Herald, including being drunk and disorderly. The singer was not present.
Mr Barbi said his client had "simply had too much to drink".
"He is the lead singer of a band, he got on stage and tried to sing a song ... the other guitarists there, they took exception to that," he said.
