OG Rappers: Where Are They Now?

Where are you now that we need you?

Remember Xzibit, DMX and Fat Joe? Ever wondered what some of your favourite classic Hip-Hop artists have been doing over the years? While it’s been a few years since some of Hip-Hop’s most notorious artists DMX, Xzibit, Fat Joe and Nelly have been ‘Hot In Herre’, we’re tracking down some of our favourite (and most notorious) OG Rappers who seem to have gone off the grid over the years.

We're looking back at our favourite featured artists to see just what they're up to now...

XZIBIT

Instagram @xzibit

The 'X' rapper and host of MTV's juggernaut Pimp My Ride, XZIBIT has taken a bit of a musical hiatus, choosing to focus on his work in television (he has just been confirmed to join the cast of  Empire) but don't fret, he hasn't completely forgotten his roots. X recently revealed that he will be going on a 'Compton' Tour, joined by Dr. Dre and Kendrick Lamar and a Dr. Dre produced album is also on the way.

DMX

Award-winning rapper DMX released several tracks to critical acclaim in the late 90's and early 00's but struggled to maintain the momentum ever since, mainly because he's been embroiled in a series of offences and in July 2013, DMX filed for bankruptcy. However, DMX fans, don't fret! If you're in the States anytime soon, you can catch a glimpse of the legend in concert.

BUSTA RHYMES

Instagram @ conglomerateent

The rapper who bought us timeless bangers such as 'Dangerous' and 'Break Ya Neck' has stayed relatively hidden since his last mixtape 'Catastrophic', (a collaboration with J. Doe and Reek da Villan) was released in 2012. In July 2014, Busta announced that he left Cash Money Records due to creative differences and he is no longer on the Republic label. Most recently, he announced he'll be dropping a brand new album, E.L.E.2, the first one in seven years!

FAT JOE

Responsible for giving us some of the best verses and feats ever, Fat Joe has been riding the wave of early 00's nostalgia and touring his classics all over the world. In 2015 he revealed to HipHop Wired that that he and Remy Ma would be releasing a joint album. The first single  'All The Way Up' featuring French Montana and it's video were released on February 3rd 2016, however the yet-to-be-titled joint album drop date has yet to be released. We're psyched to say the very least.

N.W.A

Twitter @Newsweek

The incredibly influential N.W.A have enjoyed mammoth success both as a group and individually since their 1991 split. Most notably, their 2015 biopic 'Straight Outta Compton' which told the story of their rise to notoriety was both a critical and commercial success world wide, grossing over $200 million and even earned them an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

NELLY

Instagram @derrtymo

Everyone's fave Nelly has certainly changed his ways since the massive 'Hot In Herre' days. He's ditched the band-aid and adopted a more pop aesthetic to his sound which resulted in the radio-friendly and infectious 2013 single 'Hey Porsche'. Nelly now stars in his own reality TV show titled 'Nellyville' which see's him trying to juggle his music and acting careers while raising his four kids. His last single 'The Fix' was released in August 2015 through his own record label 'RECORDS' yet said in a recent radio interview with Big Boi on U.S' 92.3 station that 'there may or may not be a new album of new music'. *sniffles*

MISSY ELLIOTT

Instagram @missymisdemeanorelliott

Miss Demeanor has been teasing us with a comeback ever since she appeared with Katy Perry and Left Shark at the 2015 SuperBowl Halftime Show. Her single 'WTF' dropped in November 2015 to much fanfair and followed it up in February 2016 with 'Pep Rally', a single that coincided with the 50th Superbowl game. Quite spectacularly on March 15, 2016, First Lady Michelle Obama announced that she had collaborated with Missy on a track titled "This Is for My Girls". No word on any forthcoming album but we.are.waiting...

LL COOL J

Instagram @llcoolj

LL Cool J is perhaps more known for his hosting work these days, LL has hosted the Grammy's five years in a row now and is the face of 'Lip Sync Battle.' He was nominated to be an inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 2013 and recieved his own star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame in January 2016, but determined to get back into your earbuds and give us some more magic (hopefully in the same realm as 'Paradise') he announced earlier this month that a new album is on the way.
