Adopted Aussie Zac Efron Explains Why He’s 'Done with Hollywood' In New Docuseries
Zac Efron says he’s “done with Hollywood” in an episode of his new Netflix docuseries, which could explain his lengthy stint in Byron.
Down to Earth with Zac Efron sees the actor travel round the world with ‘wellness guru’ Darin Olien in search of all the ways we can live more eco-friendly. Said to have been filmed in 2018, the series is currently airing on Netflix US, but is yet to drop in Aus.
In episode four of the show, Zac and Darin visit Sardinia where they meet two doctors who share with them the secrets behind how Sardinians are able to live such long lives, some to over 100 years old.
“I’ve learned so much here, including that the secret to a long, healthy life is not just one thing, it’s many,” the High School Musical star said. “One major takeaway from this experience is that the locals maintain a low stress, yet active lifestyle well into old age. I’m definitely looking at my life a whole new way.”
Happy Earth Day! I have always been in awe of the magic and mystery of Mother Nature. Exploring the unknown has always been a true passion in my life and now, more than ever, I realize how important it is to take care of our planet, our people and every living thing we share it with. Zac then went on to drop this: “I gotta get out of Hollywood. I’m done. It’s not a place conducive to living a long, happy, mentally-sound life. I love California, I just think that dense population of people and city life is clearly not leading to many centenarians.”
Unless you’ve been living without WiFi (or without mates between the ages of 13-45), you would’ve heard that Zac’s been living in Byron Bay for the last few months, we imagine to escape the dire coronavirus situation in the US. While at first, it was all just a too-good-to-be-true rumour, the actor was finally papped there last week with a local friend. Now, after what he says in this ep, it all makes sense.
Earlier in the episode, Zac says one of his biggest stresses is the loneliness he faces being a celebrity. “The nature of being an actor or being in the public eye, sort of leads to isolation at times. I currently have a roommate but sometimes it’s hard to go out. The sense of camaraderie we’ve had since we’ve been on this journey [filming the show]… we’ve become friends as a crew, and I can feel myself becoming healthier and being happier every day."
“That sense of community and being around it is very, very important. I’m very aware of how I feel when that is not a part of my life. And it’s isolated and it’s slow and it’s not quite as happy.”
Here's hoping he's found that happiness in Byron and is sticking around in Aus for good. Catch the Down to Earth with Zac Efron trailer here:
