Has Post Malone Convinced Me To Actually Buy A Pair Of Filthy Crocs?
As I prepare to finish off 2019, I must inform you of a grave discovery I've made.
I...I might like Crocs.
I couldn't tell you exactly when it occurred to me that perhaps these rotten, foul, plastic clogs could very well find a home in my closet. Like a slow-seeping airborne disease, I went from feeling physically ill at the sight of une Croc, to seriously considering spending my hard-earned money on making a purchase.
While the timeline of my affection is hazy, I know exactly who convinced me and I've never been more certain of it.
It was Post Malone, in the library, with a candlestick/pair of Crocs.
Yesterday the 24-year-old rapper dropped the Post Malone x Crocs Duet Max Clog, the fourth release from their illustrious and confusing ongoing collab.
So how did this unlikely duo get together? It all started back in 2018 when Posty Tweeted: "U can tell a lot about a man by the Jibbitz in his Crocs,” which was enough for the brand to strike up a partnership right then and there.
Later that year the Post Malone x Crocs Dmitri Clog was born and his devout fans snapped those bad boys up with stock selling out within minutes. At the time the 'Better Now' rapper said, “If you like something, go get it. I wear Crocs everywhere from the bar to the stage and I felt it was the perfect collaboration to get together with Crocs and give the fans what they’ve been asking for," in an official statement.
After the initial success, the hot duo delivered again with the Post Malone X Crocs Barbed Wire Clog, an Aussie exclusive release earlier this year and of course the most recent drop.
You get the feeling that over the past few years, the folks at Crocs HQ have been doing the most to try and shed their somewhat daggy reputation. The comfy shoes which were once reserved for the hooves of chefs, your gardening gran, and little kids who still can't tie up their shoelaces; have now found a new life in the upper echelons of faaaarshion society.
It's no secret that the ugly shoe trend reigns supreme in this day and age, so when Balenciaga sent a Croc-esque foam platform down the runway, people started to have some feelings. Some ~I need them, I need them now~ feelings.
Which is exactly where I find myself. If Balenciaga, Post Malone, Ruby Rose, PSY and Takashi Murakami all think Crocs are cool, then, do I.....do I think they're cool also?
We are living in a time where us mere mortals are influenced on a daily basis - we may think that our independent thoughts dictate our lives but, they do not. Which is exactly why these celebrity collaborations are so coveted by brands - put a famous person in your campaign and watch the big bucks roll in. Heck, Kris Jenner has single-handedly built careers for all of her children using this strategy. It works!
Much like my difficulties in trying to explain why I am so deeply attracted to Post Malone, I couldn't tell you why I like his Crocs. I just do.
Considered me influenced by this man and call me a sucker for modern day consumerism! I don't care! Just get me a pair of those Crocs!
What's that? His latest collab sold out in half an hour?
Nevermind.
